JASTI takes the initiative in dealing with RoHS2 prohibited substance
On June 2015, the EU commission has published a new Directive (EU) 2015/863 to amend Annex II to EU RoHS 2 (Directive 2011/65/EU) to add the following 4 phthalates:
- ・ Bis(2-Ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP)
- ・ Benzyl butyl phthalate (BBP)
- ・ Dibutyl phthalate (DBP)
- ・ Diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP)
The additional 4 substances above which are the phthalic acid compound and are widely used as the polyvinyl chloride plasticizer in Japan. The new EU RoHS2 becomes effective after 2019.
JASTI has used DINP which is the phthalic acid as the polyvinyl chloride plasticizer in the past, however DINP does not apply to the additional substances, we are concerning that DINP will be added to the regulated substances list in the future. For this reason, we change the plasticizer from DINP to the one of the phthalic acid free. This information is introduced in the JASTI Parts Catalogue 2017.
Currently, all JASTI polyvinyl chloride products is made from the phthalic acid free plasticizer. Accordingly, the weight and the hardness of the products are also based on the following drawing request value.

Specifications
The hardness of lumbar spine is an important factor which affects the movement of the upper part of dummy and the impact value on ribs. For the reason, we have been testing lumbar spine (for Hybrid-III 50th, Hybrid-III 5F, 6-year-old, 3-year-old dummies…etc) on a Torso bending test equipment to observe and record the bending characteristics of upper torso.
As the lumbar spine of Hybrid-III 50th is in a curve shape, it is necessary for controlling the hardness of the rubber in that we control the performances.
